Sojourner's Ramblings

Oh...the pressure of a title. For now I'll settle on this one - Sojourner's Ramblings. Webster's says a sojourn is a 'temporary stay'. Personify it and a sojourner is a temporary stayer. Ever feel a little nomadic but yet you never move to any new and exciting places? I'm thirty-(cough cough) years old and have never felt settled in. And ya know?...as much of a drag as that is sometimes, I think I'm finally coming to grips with the fact that being a sojourner is truly a good thing.

Status Quo Mexico

I just returned from trip number six to Mexico. There was something different about this trip..oddly enough the thing that was different is that nothing was different. I'm finding it hard to find topics to write to you about concerning this year's adventure. We returned to the same area as last June, Dr Arroyo in Nuevo Leon, (You can click on that link if you want to know the general area we were in) so there was nothing new about the area of the country. Saw the same general things....Cascada El Salto. No new folks in our group to blog about...in fact, I've been on at least 2 trips with every other person in our group of 13 folks. Some of them all 6 trips....Rich and Jim. I think for the first time, things felt normal...almost like home. Good or bad? I haven't quite decided yet. Normally, I would have written about events like arriving for the first time in Dr Arroyo after dark and only having a first name and a very vague memory of the house we were looking for. That's not good news when in a town of about 30,000 or so there can be any number of guys named Jesus or Lazaro and ALL the houses look pretty much the same. But just in June we had a similar experience - so even something as possibly unnerving as that has become status quo. God has always been so faithful to lead us where we need to go...I've become dependent up on it. Good or bad?....still a little undecided. I see how that could possibly be evidence of spiritual growth...but at the same time evidence that it's somehow time for growth in another area. I don't know...like I said...still pretty undecided. So I say 'lo siento' to those of you hoping for some new and entertaining stories this year. But hang in there...I might be able to come up with one or two. In the meantime, you can check out the slideshow.

Wow, six trips? That's cool gub. I don't think I've ever been out of state to the same place six times, let alone out of country. It sounds like your developing friendships with the people who work on the trips. That's great!

Cool pix. Did you say the wood was rented? Wow, never seen that at Home Depot! I like the mini-wheel-barrel (pic 5). I gotta get one of those!

Yeah...I very much enjoy the group of folks that go down on this trip every year. All of us are from Ohio but I'm the only one from the Columbus area (unless Dawn goes). Wood is tough to come by in that part of the country, so everything is concrete and that's the reason for the rented wood. And it looked like it had been rented a time or two! I loved Obed's little wheelbarrow. We were shopping at one of the feed stores and saw the same model there.
